Sacai went wild for its FW25 men’s and women’s show.
From the moment the runway opened to display a dusky, enthralling sand-printed background, I knew this collection would be enticing — I mean, it is titled “Where The Wild Things Are.” For years, Sacai has benefited from the hybridization idea of its creative director, Chitose Abe. For this collection, Abe focused on silhouettes while exploring ideas associated with the notion of wilderness — essentially, these are the ideas of living in nature, untamed and unrestricted by convention; the principle of thinking beyond normal, expected boundaries; and the nature of unfettered passion and emotion.
The collection featured garments adorned with the most dramatic, increasingly pointed style of fur, which toys with the concepts of elemental and raw — providing protection and comfort against the toughness of the outside world. There were jeans with a slightly baggy fit with pockets so deep they look like they could hold your Stanley cup (the brand hit the nail on the head) teamed with the perfect pair of super furry boots from the brand’s partnership with Ugg.
Further, some pieces incorporated a primary color palette floral print for a groovy feel that also leans into the boho chic look. But reimagined trench coats had a touch of deconstruction and reconstruction to help breathe life into the time-worn design. While some models pounded the runway in toasty-appearing, billowing puffer coats, others wore dainty but stern mini dresses — emblazoned with chunky fur boots that exude the Abominable Snowman vibes, but in a chic way — proving this collection is versatile.
On top of the brand’s collaboration with Ugg this season, Sacai also used Carhartt WIP washed canvas merged with Sacai’s signature knitwear, down and new leather.
Furthermore, this collection is one for the Sacai fan who loves seeing the brand settle in and continue to plant its roots into the current fashion landscape — see what I did there?
