Janet Jackson is a multi-hyphenated talent who is synonymous with style and performance—whether it was when she first began appearing alongside her brothers in the family tv series “The Jacksons” in the mid-late ‘70s, or currently, as she sets across the country for her Together Again tour. Ultimately, the Janet Jackson: Together Again tour is Jackson’s return to the stage, and so far, Jackson has proved that her return was worth the wait. It kicked off in Hollywood, Florida earlier in the month and focuses upon the biggest hits of her 40+ year spanning career that has churned out beloved classics like “Nasty,” “Together Again,” “All for You,” “If,” and many more.
So, as I began to think about what I would wear to my show to see the legendary Ms. Jackson, I started to think, what should you wear to your show? Reiterating the above, Jackson will be performing some of her biggest hits from her music eras, so I thought, why not celebrate the eras through clothing?
I mean, when you think about it, Jackson is a fashion icon in her own right. Let’s be honest. The sharp all-black power suiting moment from her 1986 best-seller “Control”—which was very indicative of the times and parallels Jackson making her own name and presence in the music industry on her own terms, to the ground-breaking, influential open-buttoned jeans on her “janet.” album, to her bright, vibrant red tresses and suit, new-age fashion moments during her “The Velvet Rope” era, to her edgy, chunky boot and bootcut jean “dancer-chic” outfits during the “All For You” tour and album run, to futuristic silhouettes for the “Discipline” LP and videos, Jackson proves that she knows how to craft distinguishable and memorable album eras that lend themselves to the attire she adorns herself in. And, while she is most known for her music, her astounding stamina as a top-tier showman, and her eccentric style choices, she also knows how to turn heads on red carpets and premieres and further bolsters her reputation.
Below, you’ll find a few looks inspired by Jackson and her record-breaking, legendary music career. Some looks are for those who want a bolder look when attending a concert, and others are more tamed for those who prefer comfort instead of flashiness. What’s more, you’ll find platform boots (a staple, in my opinion, when it comes to Janet and her sartorial tastes), and you’ll find a tuxedo tube top that feels very sophisticated while getting in all of your “Control” cosplay ideas without the heat of a billowing suit.
So, whether you’re looking for your outfit for the Janet Jackson: Together Again tour, you already know what you’re wearing, or you want to see some ideas of Jackson’s fashion legacy reinterpreted, then look no further—we have you covered with seven looks that you should wear to the “Janet Jackson: Together Again” tour. In conclusion, some of my favorite albums from Janet include “The Velvet Rope,” “All for You,” and “Control.” What are yours? Let us know in the comments!

Inspired by Jackson’s “Control” album, this look will have you ready to find some control while screaming for Janet and hitting your best dance moves.

Getting its inspiration from Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation 1814” album, this look serves up sophistication and sleekness.

Jackson’s “janet.” influenced this look, and I truly can hear and feel her emphatic and edgy song “Throb” pumping all up and through this grunge-inspired moment.

Inspired by Jackson’s “The Velvet Rope” album (my personal favorite), this ensemble is for those who are more adventurous with their looks and love playing with color and print.

For all those who grew up in the early aughts, chances are that you’ve seen this style on Jackson. This one gets its inspiration from Jackson’s “All for You” album.

“Discipline,” Jackson’s big return album in ’08, inspired this outfit, and it’ll keep you cool, calm, and collected while Jackson performs songs like “Feedback” and “Rock Wit U” from the album.

In 2016, Jackson released her most recent LP, “Unbreakable.” For this era, she went rugged and breezy—two adjectives that describe this outfit.
